Is Athennian remote or hybrid?

We are remote-first and hire globally. Most roles work from their home location day-to-day. In-person collaboration happens in two ways:

  1. Office Hubs (Toronto & Calgary) – teams may gather for sprint kick-offs, workshops, or client sessions.
  2. Company Summits – periodic, fully sponsored meet-ups focused on strategy-setting and cross-team alignment.
What are the core working hours?

Generally speaking, you work your standard business hours in your own time-zone. Certain customer-facing or highly cross-functional roles may request a few hours’ overlap with other regions, but we respect local time-zones and aim for asynchronous collaboration wherever practical.

What can I expect when I start?

We kick off onboarding every Tuesday so new joiners have everything ready on day one.

  • Pre-Day 1: Your fully configured laptop ships to you, and IT shares secure credentials so you can log in immediately. You’ll also receive a deck with helpful info and resources to get you prepped and feeling ready for your big day.
  • Day 1 (Tuesday Morning): Welcome session with the People Team—company overview, values, and key tools—followed by a 1:1 with your manager to get oriented on team goals, expectations, and your first week.
  • Week 1: A curated schedule of live sessions (our foundation, product, customer, benefits) plus self-paced Confluence guides. Our Slack AI search and approachable teammates make it easy to find answers fast.
  • Months 1–3: Check-ins with your manager and a member of the People team to ensure you're set up for success—aligning on goals, addressing any blockers, and helping you thrive in your new role.

We know starting a new role can be intense; our structured but friendly program is designed to make the first week exciting, not overwhelming.

What does career development look like at Athennian?

Athennian grows quickly, and so can you. We maintain documented career paths and competency rubrics for the vast majority of roles, updated annually. Employees regularly step into stretch projects, new product lines, or leadership opportunities as the company scales. If you see a gap that interests you, we encourage you to raise a hand—many of our current leaders did exactly that.

What qualities do those who are most successful at Athennian have?

The people who are most successful at Athennian are those who take full ownership of their work and are driven by the impact they create. They don’t wait for permission to solve problems—they identify what needs to be done, rally others when needed, and see things through with a strong sense of accountability. They bring energy to ambitious goals, measure their outcomes, and constantly look for ways to raise the bar—both for themselves and the business.

These individuals thrive in an environment that values speed paired with intention. They make decisions based on data and context, move quickly without being reckless, and are always thinking a few steps ahead. They adapt when circumstances change, and they’re comfortable iterating in public, sharing what they learn so that others can move faster too.

They’re also lifelong learners, eager to grow and humble enough to know they don’t have all the answers. They ask thoughtful questions, give and receive feedback openly, and are generous with their time and knowledge. And above all, they are people who value trust, operate with integrity, and understand that autonomy only works when paired with a deep commitment to results.

If that sounds like you, you’ll find a strong sense of belonging here.
